NaBloPoMo November 2015

January NaBloPoMo

I missed a day (Jan 1) already because I didn’t schedule a post, but I’m going to try NaBloPoMo again this month. I’m hoping it will set the tone for the year.

Follow along and join in if you like! 🙂

Today…

Okay, my brain is really pissing me off. My fingers are refusing to type out a coherent blog post that doesn’t make me want to throw my computer across the room.

I think I need to get out more. The most exciting part of my week so far is that I got a new set of tires on the car. Which is just plain sad.

I’ve been catching up on more blogs lately and browsing pinterest and instagram for inspiration, but bottom line is…I got nothing. It’s life as usual around here which means I’m wearing either jeans + tee or workout wear (let’s not discuss that most days I don’t actually workout), daily happenings that include driving kids to school, cleaning/laundry, taking the dog to the groomers, eating a so-so dinner and not really doing much else. Blaaaaaaaahhhhhhh! Note to self: Do something more exciting than going to Target!

So, since I refuse to give up on this NaBloPoMo thing, I’m chatting about random, trivial crap that’s on my mind…

  • You might have heard that Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale are divorcing. I was so sad when I heard the news. I’ve loved Gwen since her No Doubt days and my Bush cd was definitely in rotation back in the 90’s. Well, today it came out that Gavin might have actually cheated on her with their nanny! For THREE years! OMG. First of all, how could you cheat on Gwen Stefani?! She’s Gwen-freaking-Stefani! You’re just a moron. Second, I need to ask what the hell Gwen was thinking when she hired a young, hot blond chick for a nanny?! If I were a celebrity and had to hire a nanny, you can bet your a** that she’d be older and not my mates type. Although I don’t really think that stopped the Terminator, but you can be dang sure that I’d not be hiring some hot young thang who will be hanging around my house with my husband. I wouldn’t hire a hot young guy either so it’s not that I don’t trust my husband, but marriages have their ups and downs and when opportunity is staring you in the face 24/7, during one of those down times, you might not have the will power to say no.
  • I probably shouldn’t admit this, but I still watch the Real Housewives reality shows. [Only the OC, New York and LA ones though. I never got into the Miami, New Jersey or Atlanta ones.] The OC just wrapped up a few weeks ago and the whole Brooks thing is cray! I can’t believe he thought he could get away with fabricating his medical papers! At first I was reluctant to believe that he was lying about something as serious as cancer, but with this new scandal, his answers just keep getting wackier and wackier. After the hospital he reportedly went to for treatment said he was never a patient there, he confessed that he faked the papers. Why? Because he never intended on disclosing his actual medical records or discuss his medical history, ergo, the fabricated papers. Really? The story just keeps getting crazier.
  • The Starbucks drama. *sigh* No I’m not going there. Only pointing out that it’s happening, it’s ridiculous and the media is blowing it up way more than necessary.
  • DWTS – Tamar Braxton had to drop out due to health issues. She was such a trooper and I hope she heals fully, but is it wrong of me to wish they’d bring Alexa back?! Alexa was one of my favorites and she killed it on Monday. It was such a bummer that she got eliminated. They’ll probably just have a free week next week and not send anyone home instead of bringing Alexa back. 🙁 Bindi is probably my absolute fave though so at least she’s still there.
  • All I have to say about this apparent clip-in man bun is…just say no! It’s creepy and weird. Not every guy looks good in a man bun, but NO man looks good in a clip-on man bun.
  • I could have said every word in this video rant about car lines. “for people who do not pull forward, the world is bigger than you!” Amen sister!
  • And finally, Happy Veteran’s Day! Today was bigger than just a day off of school. Thank you to all the veterans who have served or are currently serving our country!

Life Lately

Oh hi.

*waves energetically*

Yes, yes, I know, I’m back from yet another unplanned hiatus. I’m not trying to disappear, I swear.

Remember back when I was doing NaBloPoMo and I said posting every day was hard, but easier at the same time? That’s because when I’m posting every day I don’t feel the need to have big, incredibly entertaining, awesome posts where I try to cram everything that’s been happening or that I want to share into one blog post. By posting daily I could just ramble about whatever was on my mind at the moment. Yet here I am, not posting often enough and feeling the need to have these super awesome and personable/helpful/cool posts. I’m not sure any of my posts are those things, but I like to think that at least some of them are.

So, let’s see…what’s been going on with me lately?

I’ve started my gym routine back…again. It seems like I say this every few months and I inevitably fall off the wagon. I’m determined to stay on top of that freaking wagon this time though dangit. I’ve had to take some extra rest days due to soreness and being busy so I’m a little behind schedule, but I’m just going to keep plugging along and not worry about how far behind I’m getting. I’ve already started to notice subtle changes and even though I hate working out, I love feeling strong and fit.

Speaking of working out, I got some new bluetooth headphones. I’m not sure if I love them yet, but I’ll keep you posted. I like my old bluetooth ones, but I don’t like that they hang around my neck. When I laid down on benches or the floor while at the gym, they would fall off. Unfortunately, these new bluetooth ones start hurting my ears after about an hour. I’m going to try some different tips though and see if that makes them more comfortable. I very much like that I don’t have to worry about them falling off while I’m jumping around or laying on benches! I think for long term wear, I’d still wear my LG ones.

Book update: Even though I’m pretty behind in my reading goal for 2015 (only 3 in January 🙁 ), I did manage to finish my latest book from bloggingforbooks. Review coming soon!

I started a (very) part-time job. It’s some behind the scenes tech grunt work that allows me to work remotely most of the time, but it’s kinda perfect for me right now as I ease back into the working world.

This past weekend the teen was out of town on a school trip (her first out of town trip that I didn’t chaperone! I thought the hubs was going to give himself a heart attack. He was tracking her with the Find my Friends app the whole time. lol. FWIW, she made it back home safe & sound). On Friday I had date night with my favorite almost 12 yr old and then we shipped him off to Nana and Pappy’s on Saturday so the hubs and I could have a date day at the theatre. We saw The Book of Mormon and…Oh.my.word…I was laughing hysterically most of the way through it. There are a few somber moments and a few slow songs, but for the most part, it’s hilarious! Btw, if you’ve seen the show, but don’t have the soundtrack, it’s available on Amazon Prime for free download. I say if you’ve seen it because it’s got some explicit lyrics that may not make sense or seem out of place if you haven’t seen the production. Listen at your own risk if you haven’t seen and loved the musical. 🙂

I was going through the photo roll on my phone to see what I’ve been up to since I blogged last and sadly this is the bulk of it. Just living day to day. Wake up, make lunches, get kids to school, do a bunch of random stuff that involves some combination of cleaning/grocery shopping/reading/working out/napping/slacking/working, kid 1 gets off bus, head to pick up kid 2 at school (curse you after school activities), come home, feed family, get ready to do it all over again the next day. Wash.Rinse.Repeat.

I hope you’re still dropping by my little corner of the internet even though I post sporadically. Anything exciting happening with you lately?

Waving the White Flag

I’m throwing in the NaBloPoMo towel!

I’ve been doing awesome on my operation: get back into shape (yes, it’s only been 2 days…don’t judge :P).

I’ve also been more motivated to do a little first of the year de-cluttering. I was watching Rachel Ray yesterday, something I NEVER do, and this guy, was on. He has a 31 day de-clutter challenge that started yesterday (how convenient!), so I have been doing his daily challenges, along with a little other house cleaning. My hubby is in hog heaven and I feel like I’m going to regret getting everything so nice and shiny because then he’s going to expect this kind of treatment all the time and lets be honest, I’ll likely go back to my procrastinating ways very soon. But, for now, I’m enjoying having the motivation and desire to de-clutter, so I’m gonna ride this wave until I wipeout.

Between de-cluttering, trying to eat better and move more, my motivation (and creativity) towards blogging is at about a 10 out of 100. I feel like I’m struggling to type anything out. I get snippets that pop into my head, but I can’t seem to type out a whole post.

So, before I stress myself over this blogging every day thing, I decided that maybe January wasn’t the right month to try another 30 day blogging challenge. Seriously, I’m boring myself to pieces with my writing so I can’t imagine anyone is actually enjoying the garbage I’ve been passing off as blog posts so far this month.

I’ll still be around, just not likely every day. 🙂

#MicroblogMondays // 04

I’m taking the easy route today and using Blogher’s NaBloPoMo daily prompt.

Monday, January 5, 2015: Tell us about your worst habit?

Hmmm…my worst? I’m not sure I can choose!

I often…

procrastinate

chew my nails

pick at my cuticles

leave hair in the shower drain

start something and not finish it

mindlessly eat

sit my fanny in front of the TV

worry too much

overthink a task so much that I fail to ever start it

Clearly I have many bad habits to work on. I think my worst is probably procrastination.

At least I’m aware of my downfalls, right? Admitting it is the first step to recovery! 😉

WAHHHH

It’s day 4 (my day 3) of NaBloPoMo and here I am at 10:37pm, writing my blog post.

Oy vey. Not a very good start to the month.

I woke up this morning, poured my iced coffee, was just about to sit on the couch to surf when I heard a little voice say, “mommy…I threw up”

Well, good morning to you too, sunshine!

He was very calm and we had a little discussion about how he didn’t get it on his bed, but a little went on his floor before making it to the bathroom.

I put my coffee in the fridge and headed up to start my day by cleaning vomit off the carpet.

It could have been way worse though so I’m thankful that he mostly made it to the toilet.

Tomorrow, it’s back to the grind. Back to school, back to early morning routines, back to homework and back to focusing on my health and fitness.

I already planned meals for the week so now I just have to stick to them and get my exercise in. I’ll be taking my “before” photos and measurements tomorrow too, but I won’t be sharing them until I have a good after to compare it to!

Getting back on track with my fitness is a must! I am tired of feeling sluggish and not being able to fit into my clothes!

Getting sleep is also important so I’m going get off this thing and get ready for bed. The school alarm is a wee bit earlier than when I’ve been waking over holiday break. I have a feeling I will not be the most pleasant person in the AM. 😉

Are you starting your fitness/health goals tomorrow too or did you start on the first?

I’m kinda addicted

NaBloPoMo for November is over and I made it all 30 days. *insert a wild raucous of hooting and hollering*

Yet, here I am…still staring at my blog daily…feeling the itch, the visceral need to type something…anything. Even though I have nothing particularly interesting rattling around in this head of mine that I want to share.

While the whole blogging every day thing was sometimes a hassle and harder in some ways, it was also easier. When I’m blogging daily, I don’t feel the need to make sure that I write about something interesting. I would sit, knowing that I have to write something so whatever came to mind and spilled out onto the keyboard, was what I blogged about that day. But then I start to wonder if that’s a good thing or not?

A couple thoughts I’m pondering since the end of my 30 days…

I need to spend less time typing out a blog post :: I take so long to write a post that it ends up monopolizing my time and I get very little done outside of blogging. When I get this figured out, then I’ll be able to actual schedule some posts!

I need to work harder at creating content :: While I find my posts to be amusing or worth reading, I do realize that I probably feel that way because I’m IN them and it’s about MY life.

I really like blogging daily and just letting things flow, but I feel like I need to strike a balance between daily just saying whatever comes to mind and talking about things that are interesting enough for people to keep coming back.

Or maybe not? I don’t know. I haven’t found it yet, but I feel like I’m at least getting closer to finding my voice.

What do you all think…is content or consistency more important in a blog you visit often? A mix of both?

P.S. I devoured this whole bag of popcorn today. THIS is why I can’t have yummy things in the house! Meanwhile, my hubby, who has never drank a green juice/smoothie in his life, has decided to go on a green smoothie cleanse.  🙄

Happy Dance!

Wahoooooo!! We made it! The last day of November NaBloPoMo!

Who just blogged for 30 days in a row?

I’m awesome and I know it.

If you need me, I’ll be over here doing the “I just blogged for 30 days straight” dance

And for everyone who participated in or even attempted NaBloPoMo…

and now…

I’m going to go hibernate for a couple of days, but I’ll be back soon! 🙂

Starbucks is killing it

I usually take my lazy booty through the drive thru line at Starbucks, but today, I thought, “eh. The line is kinda long, I’ll go inside” and oh was I glad I did.

I walked in…looked to my right and…”aaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh”

IMG_9015

the heavens opened up, a light shone down from above and the angels started singing

Ya’ll, Starbucks has SERIOUSLY stepped up their game this holiday season! I had to refrain from buying one of everything! I was like a kid in a candy store. You can see them all online at Starbucks.com, but here are a few of my favorites.

IMG_9017

YES, please! I really don’t need these cups, but oh.em.geeeeee, they are SO stinkin’ cute!

And it’s not just cups, check out their massive collection of gift cards.
