Printed photos make me happy…

DSC_7757-Edit

I don’t know about you, but I am terrible at printing my own photos.  I take a gazillion photographs, but after the instant gratification of seeing them on the computer when I download them, I drag my feet on the printing process.  Which is why after returning home from our France trip, I made a significant effort to cull through all our photos and edit them slightly.  I printed 4×6’s immediately just to have, but I knew I wanted to eventually print them in a photo book.  Question was, who to use….

I knew I wanted some control over the layout, but not so much that I was spending hours making page layouts from scratch and I knew that I wanted a good quality book.  I had a calendar printed as a Christmas gift from Pinhole Press and it was beautiful, so I started there.  Unfortunately, I found out the hard way (aka after I made 40 pages) that the book had a max page limit, yet I was only halfway through our trip photos.  Mmmkay, Pinhole Press out!  Although, I do still very much want to try their books!  I moved on to My Publisher, but it seemed complicated and I got annoyed quickly so, I moved on to another company.  Finally, I settled on Blurb.  Hallelujah…winner, winner, chicken dinner!!

After I got the software from the website downloaded, it took me a few hours to put the book together.  I was able to add journaling and had a variety of page layouts to choose from.  To say I’m thrilled with the final result would be an understatement!  It’s beautifully printed and it makes me incredibly happy to have photos from our trip on display.

April :: Project Life 365

Shew…made it another month without missing a day!

There are only two mistakes…

Day 4, Favorite Quote

“There are only two mistakes one can make along the road to truth; not going all the way, and not starting. ~Buddha”

This particular quote stands out to me because it’s the story of my life.  I either don’t start something because I don’t know how or because I’m afraid to fail…or I don’t finish it.  I really want to be better at going after what I want and seeing it through to the end!

things that make me squirm…

Day 3 in the bloggity blog challenge…What makes me uncomfortable

Not the usual stuff like talking about myself (I’m pretty much an open book and will tell you more than you want to know) or having boudoir photos taken, standing in my skivies for my dermatologist or even going to the gynecologist.  Geez, it kinda sounds like I’m full of myself, but that’s really far from the truth.  Those particular things just don’t bother me, but there are plenty of others that definitely make me squirm…

sp_boredom

  • Bodily functions
  • Awkward silence
  • Confrontation :: I will do just about anything to avoid confrontation, even though that sometimes means I get walked all over.  I have this irrational need to be liked by everyone, regardless of whether I like them or not.  Not to mention that just because you speak up for yourself doesn’t mean they won’t like you.
  • Meeting new people :: this one is a biggie for me.  I am so bad with meeting new people.  I want to meet new people and I like to be around them, but if I’m in a group setting, my mind will go blank and I can’t make conversation to save my life.  If I’m one on one, most of the time I end up with verbal diarrhea and say whatever crosses my mind.  People usually have a misconception of who I really am.  In school I would gradually start talking to people and after they got to know me they’d say, “I used to think you were so stuck up”.  In reality, I was just shy and introverted. Once I get to know you though, I am fairly normal (I think, lol).
  • Being put on the spot :: undoubtably I ALWAYS freeze up.  My mind goes blank and then everyone thinks I’m lame.
  • Vain things like having a huge zit or when my pits sweat and my shirt is visibly wet under my arm.  I seriously have a pit sweating problem.  I’ve tried all kinds of deodorants (antiperspirant & deodorant), but nothing works.  If I didn’t hate needles so much I’d botox those buggers!

My life :: in a nutshell

So, there’s this blog challenge that I learned about today on Saturated Canary.  It’s a blog everyday in May challenge that Jenni, from Story of My Life is leading us in.  I’m one day behind already, but I’m not letting that deter me.  I don’t plan on blogging every day, but maybe I’ll blog more than usual and maybe you’ll learn a little more (maybe too much?) about me.  😉  Click that little pic below to see the challenge and join in!

Day 1, Wednesday Thursday: The story of your life in 250 words or less

Here goes…

I’m a Floridian born and raised. When I got married we had brief stints in Savannah, GA and Raleigh, NC, but once I got pregnant, we came back to FL to be around family.

old_pic

I’m from a family of 4 siblings (youngest brother wasn’t born yet in above pic) and was the baby of the family for 8.5 yrs…then my brother came along and ruined my fun.  Haha..j/k.  I loved having a baby brother to play mommy to.  *fun fact…My sister is 9yrs older than I am and I am 9 yrs older than my brother.  Then my other brother is thrown in the middle of my sister and I.  He had fun torturing us as the middle child.

I’m the only one of my siblings that did not play a musical instrument in school.  The piano was the only instrument I was interested in, but we couldn’t afford to buy one for the house, thus…nothing to practice on.

We moved to a neighboring city the summer before my senior year of HS.  Since we moved to a different county, I had to change schools.  I cried several days during the first few weeks of school and I’m pretty sure I made my mom feel terrible (being a mom, I imagine she must have spent some time feeling sad for me and maybe cried a few times herself).  I’m not very outgoing, so making friends was (is) difficult.  Thankfully I found a crazy New Yorker to befriend (another new girl) who was very outgoing so I piggybacked of her socialization.  Her name was Katie too.  Most people would ask Katie ____ or other Katie.  I was “other Katie” every single time.  Hey, I’m not going to complain.  Without her, I would have been “who’s Katie?”.  Plus, because of her and who she knew, I met my husband in HS.  We wouldn’t meet up again and fall in love until 1.5 yrs later, but that was where we first met.

My twenties are a blur…Got married at 20, had babies at 22 and 25.  Spent most of the decade learning how to be a wife and mother.

mytwenties

Now, I spend my time…being a wife & mom (toting kids to and from school/events, helping with homework, making ordering dinner, trying to be a good wife), addicted to social media (FB, twitter, pinterest, instagram), blogging about anything that’s on my mind, shopping (making up for lost years of not shopping because I didn’t like the way anything looked on me), taking pretty pictures, trying to stay fit & healthy, and working on figuring out who I am and what I want to do when I grow up.

Whoops…I didn’t count, but I’m pretty sure I went over 250.  :oP

date night :: #whatiwore

It’s been awhile since hubs & I had a real date night where we got all dolled up.  Usually we’re just happy to have alone time so we end up having a casual dinner and enjoy hanging out together.  I have to admit that we’d already been out that day and I was seriously fighting the urge to wash my face, jump into my pj’s and settle in under my blanket on the couch.  I think it’s pretty obvious from my previous sentence that I’m a hard core party animal so….I threw on some (ridiculously awesome) pumps, a leather jacket, touched up my make-up and we were off!  What else could I do?  We were kid free and I had been waiting on an excuse to wear my new shoes for weeks!

Love, love, loving my recent purchase from Paris.  This was their first real outing since being back in the states and they were amazing.  I want to live in them 24/7!

Do you go meatless on Monday (or any day)?

In case you’ve been living under a rock, there’s a trend called Meatless Mondays. Basically, you go vegetarian just for the day. Here’s a cool infographic about it…

902503_558868764158061_79144345_o

I want to get back into the habit of Meatless Mondays, but I’m terrible about planning ahead and I want to do something different other than just black beans & avocado.  Which are a staple in this house and completely delicious, but I need to branch out a little.  Here are a couple of recipes I’m thinking about for dinner tonight…

Thai Black Pepper and Garlic Tofu

How delicious does that ^^^ look?!

OR

The Best Veggie Burger Ever
(the bold labeling of Best definitely makes me want to try it!)

and maybe one of these tofu nugget recipes for the kids…

Crispy Coconut Crusted Tofu with Mango Chili Cream(image & recipe via Vegalicious)

Then again, who am I kidding, it’s almost 11am here and I still need to get dressed, wash clothes, workout, eat lunch and go to Target.  Maybe this is on the menu for NEXT Monday.  😉

Girls Night Out! :: #whatiwore

My SIL & I had an impromptu GNO and went to see Spank! The Fifty Shades Parody.  It was 50 Shades of Grey meets comedy with a side of strip club…SO funny!!  Perfect for a GNO!

Boston Strong

Lookie what came in the mail today!  The same day I start back running is the same day I received my Boston Strong tank from Firedaughter clothing.  Coincidence…I think not.

DSCF1236-Edit

It looks like the Boston Strong tanks are all sold out  There are a few more S, L & XL’s for sale on her site if you want one of your very own.  This one that I have on is a small (for reference I’m 5’4″, size 2/4, 34B) and it’s a little more fitted and shorter than I would have liked.  I think when I order one of her tanks again (and I’m sure I will), I’ll go with a medium.  🙂
